Solvent Effects and Metal Ion Recognition in Several Azulenyl-Vinyl-Oxazolones

The spectral properties of several azulene-oxazolone derivatives containing a phenyloxazolone moiety linked to substituted azulene ring via C=C double bond were studied in different solvents varying polarity. solvatochromism and the ability recognize heavy metal ions investigated. In order estimate contribution non-specific specific solute–solvent interactions, multiple linear regression analysis using Kamlet–Taft, Catalan Laurence parameters was applied. These demonstrate positive solvatochromism. methyl isopropyl substituents at seven-membered determine highest red shifts absorption maxima these azulenyl-vinyl-oxazolones. According models, solvent polarizability is more significant parameter describing solvatochromic derivatives. compounds under study showed good response cations (Cd2+, Hg2+, Cu2+ Pb2+).
